Week of October 1 – 5, 2018

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!  The past week has been very exciting at MHS.  Our clubs and organizations are off to a great start and the energy of the school is great.  Additionally, our fall sports teams….AWESOME!  Each of you are having incredible seasons so far.  Keep up the great work.  Thank you for Tribe Nation for bringing Sachem Pride to life each and every week.  We have a very week ahead!! Here are a few items for the week ahead:

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • Thank you to Heidi Chretien for representing our school at the MASC President’s Dinner on Thursday night.  Additionally, thank you to Chase Holyoke for his leadership as the State President of MASC.  The dinner you and your board planning on Thursday were incredible.  Thank you.
    • Thank you to the MHS Majorettes for an incredible half-time show on Friday evening.  The fire batons were awesome!
    • Thank you to the many Student Council members representing the Class of 2022 for attending your kick-off meeting for Student Council.  It was great to see so many of your taking a step in your leadership journey. 
    • Thank you to Maddie Kilpeck for signing the National Anthem at the football game on Friday night. 
    • Thank you to all members of our school community who rocked the GOLD on Friday to help in the support of childhood cancer awareness.  It was great to see so many of you in Gold.  Also, a note of thanks to the Student Council for organizing the day!

  1.  Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences – October 3
    • Progress Reports for Quarter I will be issued to all students on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 during a special advisory on Wednesday at 1:40pm.
    • Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:30pm.  Please be sure you are making appointments with your teachers!!

  1.  Professional Development Day – Friday, October 5
    • Please know that on Friday, October 5, 2018 is a half-day for professional development for the school district.  Dismissal for the high school is 11:30am.


  1.  The Class of 2023 Visit to Middleborough High School – Friday, October 19, 2018 – Mark Your Calendar!
    • The Class of 2023 will be visiting MHS on Friday, October 19th to help our 8th graders make the best choice about their high school experience.  We want that choice to be Middleborough High School.  Let’s prepare to roll out the welcome mat to our future Sachems!  A special thanks to the many student leaders who will serve as tour guides for the morning.  We could not make this happen without you!

  1. Club Us Meeting – Tuesday, October 2
    • The next meeting of Club US will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 6:30pm in the MHS Library.  All members of Club US are encouraged to attend.  Please see Mr. Branagan or Mr. Sylvia with any questions.

  1. Common Application and Naviance Help Sessions – GRADE 12
    • Attention Seniors!  Do you need a little help with the Common Application and Naviance Account, but you can’t make it the guidance office during the school day?  The Guidance Department will be offering after school extra help sessions starting this week for any senior who needs it.  The first session will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 1:50 – 3:00pm in the Guidance Office.  Please bring your laptop and get ready for some help!  Please see your guidance counselor with any questions.

  1. New Club – Role Playing Games – RPG Club
    • MHS is proud to offer a new club on campus…Role Playing Club.  If you have an interest in Role Playing Games….please see Mr. Roberts in Room 222.  There will be an organizational meeting very soon. 

  1. Student Council Lock-In – Saturday, October 6 & 7
    • Attention all members of the Student Council!!  The annual lock-in is coming this weekend and get ready for a great night.  There is still time to get your permission slips into Mr. Branagan in order to participate in the lock-in. 
    • Permission slips are available in the main office!  Please see Mr. Branagan, Mr. Siciliano or Heidi Chretien with any questions.

Week of September 24– 28, 2018

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!  I want to take a moment and thank the many students who participated in the Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday!  It was so amazing to know that close to 100 student leaders from Middleborough High School led the Lunch Stop at the Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday.   The team served over 6,000 sandwiches and cheered on the thousands of walkers who were supporting the fight to cure cancer. What a great day!  As we complete the first month of the school year…reflect on the goals that you set for yourself and see if you are keeping that focus for success this year!  We have a very busy week ahead!  So, here we go!!

  1. Sachem Shout-Outs:
    • Congratulations to all of the fall sports teams for the incredible seasons that are happening for our teams.  Sachem Pride is everywhere.  Continue to tell our story!
    • A thank you to Heidi Chretien for representing Middleborough at the MASC President’s Dinner this Thursday evening at the MSAA/MIAA Building.  It will be a great evening.  Also, a note of appreciation to Chase Holyoke, MASC Delegate for his work in planning this event. 
    • Congratulations to the cast and crew of the STW Fall Show!  Excited to see your rehearsals begin and counting down the days until the opening night!
    • To the many student leaders to came to kick-off the new leadership team, Club US…thank you for your commitment to making our school great.  Look forward to our next meeting. 

  1. Class of 2019 Senior Class Trip to Florida:
    • Final call to sign-up to be a part of the Class of 2019 Senior Class Trip to Florida over April vacation.  You do not want to miss out on this great way to end your senior year.  Sign-ups close on Friday, September 28, 2018.  Please see me with any questions.

  1.  College Planning Night - Thursday, September 27, 2018
    • For seniors applying to college or thinking about it…we are hosting a College Planning Night that is “must” in your planning!  This very important event will begin at 6:30pm in the MHS Auditorium!  Important timeline information will be given!  Please share this with your parents/guardians!

  1.  Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences:
    • Progress Reports for Quarter 1 will be distributed on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.  It is important to take a moment and reflect on this document and see if you are meeting your goals.  It is very important to keep the eye on the prize…and reach for success.  I will be reviewing Progress Reports and expect to see excellence…that is what Sachems do!
    • On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, you will receive the appointment sheets for you to make appointments for your parents/guardians for Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.  Please be sure to take that appointment sheet and bring it to your teachers.

  1.  Oak Point Yard Sale - Saturday, October 6, 2018
    • The residents of Oak Point will be hosting their annual Yard Sale on Saturday, October 6, 2018.  This yard sale is held to raise money for scholarships that will be awarded directly to MHS students!  Attention all juniors and seniors…please consider going to the Oak Point Yard Sale to help with the set-up or clean-up and to volunteer an hour to two to this wonderful cause. 

  1. Middleborough High School GOES GOLD – Friday, September 28
    • Please mark your calendar for Friday, September 28, 2018 as Middleborough High School GOES GOLD for Childhood Cancer Awareness.  So, deck yourself out in the color gold on Friday to show your support of children who are battling childhood cancers.  Let’s unite behind this very important cause. 

  1. Become a Middleborough Majorette – Try-Outs this week!
    • Middleborough High School Majorette Team of NEMA will be holding try-outs on Tuesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 27 from  6:00 – 8:00pm at the Nichols Middle School.  You must attend both nights to be considered for the team.  Please wear sneakers, soft shoes and have your hair up.  Try-outs will be for girls and boys in all grades 4 – 12.  Hope to see many of you there.

  1. Driver’s Education Sign-Up’s Begin!:
    • Driver’s Education will begin at  MHS this fall and run from October 15 – October 26, 2018 through Martin Auto School.  Sign-Ups for Driver’s Education will take place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week during all four lunches.  If you have any questions…please call Martin Auto School directly at 508-999-3832. 

  1. Student Council Lock-In – October 6 & 7, 2018
    • The annual Student Council Lock-In will take place on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 (8pm – 7am) for all members of the MHS Student Council.  Permissions slips are available from the main office this week.  You do not want to miss out on this annual event!!  Please see Mr. Branagan or Mr. Siciliano with any questions.

  1.   Class of 2022 Kick-Off Meeting – Wednesday, September 26
    • The Class of 2022 Kick-Off Meeting for Student Council will take place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 7:00 – 8:30pm in the MHS Cafeteria.  All new members of the Class of 2022 joining student council should attend this very important meeting.  We look forward to seeing you there.  Please see Mr. Branagan or Mr. Siciliano with any questions.

Week of September 17 – 21, 2018

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!  Last week was an incredible week to be Sachem!  I want to thank you all you are doing to help make the start of this school year a complete success.  From all accounts, each of you is working hard in your classes to ensure that you are committing yourself to help write our story.   I am so excited for this year ahead!  This past week we officially elected the class officers to lead the Class of 2022 through their first year of high school.  The speeches on Friday were awesome.   Also, we kicked-off our AP Classes with our annual Kick Off Rally for our ever-growing AP Program.  Another exciting week to be a Sachem!  We have a very busy week ahead!  So, here we go!!

1.   Sachem Shout – Out:
·         Thank you to the members of the Student Council for hosting a wonderful Welcome Back BBQ and Tailgate on Friday evening at Battis Field.  The Holly Party before the game was awesome.  A new tradition perhaps?  It was a great time!
·         Thank you for the STW for opening the Black Box Theater for a wonderful kick-off and welcome to our new students.  From all accounts…a great time was had by all at the Fall Coffee House. 
·         To the members of the Student Council and Cheerleaders who volunteered at the Bat Run on Sunday at MHS.  Additionally to the many members of the MHS Community who participated in the Bat Run itself…awesome job!   What an incredible day of support to help fight childhood cancer!  MHS Goes for the Gold!
·         Thank you to the MHS Band, Concert Choir and Cheerleaders for being an outstanding part of the annual Advanced Placement Kick-Off Rally, which was held on Friday.  Awesome job!
·         Thank you to Owen McCarthy for representing Middleborough High School at the School Committee Student Representative Workshop on Saturday. 
·         Congratulations to Tom Devine and Michael Gould for completing their Eagle Scout Projects.  We are very proud of you!
·         Congratulations to the Class of 2022 Officers who were elected on Friday by the entire freshmen class:

2.   Student Council – Freshmen Opening Meeting – Wednesday, September 26, 2018
·         Attention all FRESHMEN members of the Student Councils!   The Opening Meeting for the Class of 2022 will take place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 7:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria.   The meeting will conclude at 8:30pm.   All members are asked to attend this important meeting. 

3.   Class of 2019 Senior Class Trip to Florida:
·         The deadline to sign-up to be a part of the Class of 2019 Senior Class Trip to Florida over April vacation.  You do not want to miss out on this great way to end your senior year.  Please see me with any questions.  Literature regarding the trip is available in the main office.  Deadline to sign up is Friday, September 28, 2018.

4.   Bring Your Voice to MHS – Join School Council
·         If you are interested in helping shape our school, then consider being a student representative to the MHS School Council.  Please see me this week if you are interested.  Our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.  Thank you for your consideration.

5.   College Planning Night – September 27, 2018

6.   Attention Parents/Guardians – Coffee with the Counselors – Friday, September 21
·         The MHS Guidance Department will host the first of many Coffee with the Counselors Program on Friday, September 21, 2018 beginning at 7:30am in the MHS Career Center.  This event is open to all MHS Parents/Guardians.  The event will conclude at 9:00am.  We hope you can join us. 
·         Please reach out to the Guidance Department with any questions.

7.   Best Buddies First Meeting – September 19 – 2:00pm
·         Come and join the Best Buddies Program with their kick-off meeting that will take place on Tuesday, September 19, 2018 at 2:00pm in the MHS Library.  Please see Sydney Jutras or Ms. Adelman with any questions. 

8.   GSA Kick-Off Meeting – Wednesday, September 19, 2018 – 2:00pm
·         The Middleborough High School GSA will host their first meeting of the year at 2:00pm in Room 209 on Wednesday.  All are welcome.  Please see Mollz Correia, Ash Baron or Mrs. Milani with any questions.


9.    Student Council Nomination Papers Due – September 21
·         Attention all MHS Students!  There is still time to join the Middleborough High School Student Council as a representative!  Nomination papers now available from the main office for all students.  If you have been on student council before…you must do a new nomination paper.  All completed nomination papers are due to Mr. Branagan no later than Friday, September 21, 2018. 
·         If you have done a nomination paper in the spring…you are all set.  J

10.       Student Council Lock-In – Save the Date
·         The annual Student Council Lock-In will be held on Saturday, October 6 – Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 8:00pm to 7:00am in the MHS Gym.   Permission slips are available in the main office. 
·         This event is open to MHS Student Council members only.

11.      Finish STRONG Update:
·         I hope all of you are wearing your shirts on Thursday to show school pride and unity! 
·         Wear your shirt on Thursday, September 20!
