Week of February 11 – 15, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  What a very busy and exciting weekend for our school!  Between the many games and competitions this weekend…Sachem Pride was everywhere.  Thank you to all of our athletes who participated in the very successful Mattress Fundraiser on Saturday.   We have a very busy, but exciting week ahead with February vacation on the horizon…we can do it!  Keep it up!  Here are a few items for the week ahead:

1. Sachem Shout-Out:
• Congratulations to the MHS Wrestling Team for an outstanding job at their tournament on Saturday.  Also, a special note to congratulate Jake Studley by earning Gold and Peter Calogero earning Bronze for their ticket to the Wrestling State Championship Meet next weekend.  Additionally, Jaden Estrada takes the Gold.   Job Well Done!
• Congratulations to Nicky Hart who placed 12^th overall in the Sectional Diving Tournament at MIT on Saturday.  Job well done!  Nicki heads to Boston University for the State Championships for Diving next weekend.
• Congratulations to the MHS Gymnastics Team for placing 5^th in our League and to Alissa Rouillier for placing 10^th all around.  Excellent job for our first season engaging in this sport.  Well done, Sachems!!
• A HUGE SHOUT-OUT to all of our students participates in the Biology MCAS tests last week!  From all accounts…you were confident and ready for this exam.  Could not be prouder of your commitment to excellence!
• Thank you to Madison Roberts and Bella Ventresca for sharing their college applications experiences with the Class of 2020 during the College Planning Night.  Job Well Done!!
• Best wishes to the MHS Track and Field Team, Boys Diving and Winter Cheerleading in their respective meets and tournaments taking place on Sunday!!

2. Spring Sports Informational Meeting – Tuesday, February 12
• The annual Spring Sports Sign-Up and Information Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2018 at 2:00pm in the MHS Gym.  All students interested and planning on playing a spring sport must attend this event. Please see Mr. Sylvia with any questions or concerns.

3.  FamilySTRONG Meeting – Tuesday, February 12, 2019

·         The next FamilySTRONG Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 6:30pm in the MHS Library.  Dr. Melanie Gates will share important information regarding the Dollars for Scholars Program.  Also, Mr. Steve Goldman will present the Middleborough High School Scholarship Program.

4.  Flower Day -February 14, 2019:

• Just a reminder that Flower Day cards will be available all this week during lunches for the cost of $1.00 per card.  Flowers will be delivered on February 14, 2019.

5.  Professional Development Day – Friday, February 15

·         Just a reminder to all students!  Our next Professional Development Day for all staff will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019.  Dismissal for all students will be at 11:30am. 

6.  GSA Cookie Party – February 13  

·         The GSA will host their third annual Cookie Party on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 2:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria.  Come and celebrate with friends!  Please see Ash Baron or Mrs. Milani with any questions. 

     7.  Middleborough Science Café – February 13 – 6:00pm

·         The next Middleborough Science Café will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 6:00pm in the MHS Library.  The guest speaker will be Mr. James Barrett from Drummey Rosanne Anderson, Inc., the firm that designed the new high school.  Mr. Barrett will come and talk about the importance of creating and energy efficient building.  This will be a very interesting presentation…please come!!

     8.  Student Council Update

·         Full-Council Meeting – Wednesday, February 13 – 6:00 – 7:45

o   Please note the earlier start time for the Student Council Meeting on Wednesday!  We will have our meeting and then head over to the Boys Basketball Game to cheer on the Sachems!!

Week of February 4 – February 8, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  We had so many events this weekend between athletics and student council…it was a great weekend to be a Sachem!  Congratulations to all of the Sachems who were engaged in games this weekend.  The Winter Ball on Saturday night was absolutely awesome.  It is such a great experience to watch our school come together to celebrate Sachem Pride.  This is such a great time of year to celebrate on how far we have come this year….and keeping the eye on the prize to the end.  You are doing a great job, Sachem!  Keep it up!  Here are a few items for the week ahead:

1. Sachem Shout-Out:. 
• Thank you to all who participated in the Volleyball Tournament on Friday after school.  The gym had a great crowd.  Congratulations to the Seniors on their win!  Also, thank you to the Volleyball Team for their help with coaching and officiating the tournament.  A great afternoon!
• Thank you to Kara McManus and Sam Crowley for representing MHS at the Women In Sports Day in Boston!  A great representation of our school. 
• Thank you to the Student Council for their leadership and vision for bringing the Winter Ball to life. The gym looked amazing.  A special shout-out to Kat LaCroix, Sydney Woodlock and Mia Bennett for their leadership in chairing the dance. 
• Congratulations to the 2019 Winter Ball Court:

• Congratulations and thank you to Dan Botelho and Jade Almovodar for their leadership and commitment to bring the 2018-2019 MASC Excellence Award Submission to completion.  The story of our Student Council is awesome because of you both.  Thank you!
• A HUGE SHOUT-OUT to all of our students who will participate in the Biology MCAS tests this week!  I hope you feel confident in your ability to be successful on this exam!  We believe in you!

2. Biology MCAS Testing – February 6 & 7, 2019
• Best of luck to our students engaging in the Biology MCAS Exam on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  We are proud of you…and know that you are going to do an amazing job on this very important assessment.  Please take your time, answer every question and be confident in your ability to find success on this exam.  You can do it. 
• There will be a special meeting of all students taking the MCAS Exam this week at 9:45am on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 in the Auditorium.
• The MCAS Exam will take place during Block 1 & 2 on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

3. Winter Open House – Wednesday, February 6, 2019
• The high school will host an open house as we begin second semester on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:00pm.  Please let your families know they will have an opportunity to meet your second semester teachers. 

4. College Planning Night – Class of 2020 Parents/Guardians/Families
• The College Planning Night for the Parents/Guardians/Families of the Class of 2020 will take place on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 6:30pm in the MHS Auditorium.  This is a very important planning meeting for all parents to attend so that you can begin this very important process strong.
• Please reach out to the Guidance Department with any questions.

5. Quarter II/Semester I Report Cards Distributed:
• The Quarter II/Semester I Report Cards will be distributed on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 1:40pm with an Advisory at the end of the day. 

6. Pop-Up Library – Tuesday, February 5
• The monthly Pop-Up Library will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 during all four lunches.  We welcome the Middleborough Public Library to the high school to borrow the latest books, DVDs, and video games.  You must have a Library Card…please see Mrs. Phillips with any questions.

7. MASBA Mattress Fundraiser – February 9, 2019
• The MASBA Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 10:00am to 5:00pm in the MHS Gym.  Come and support Middleborough Athletics and purchase a mattress for your home.  If you have any questions regarding this fundraiser, please reach out to Mr. Sylvia in the MHS Athletic Department.

8. Flower Day – February 14, 2019
• Just a reminder that Flower Day cards will be available all this week during lunches for the cost of $1.00 per card.  Flowers will be delivered on February 14, 2019.
