Week of April 29 – May 3, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  I want to take an opportunity to congratulate the senior class on their outstanding job in bring Mr. MHS back to our school this year. The event was awesome!  The countdown officially begins for the Class of 2019 as they enter their final month of high school.  Truly bittersweet.  This class has had an amazing impact on our school community and I am honored to be a part of their many celebrations over the next many weeks.  I expect that each of you keep the eye on the prize continue to work hard. Here are few items for the week ahead.

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To the many student council members who worked the Town Meeting as vote counters!  Your civic duty does not go unnoticed! Thank you!
    • Congratulations to STW for their outstanding birthday celebration for William Shakespeare through your Spring Coffee House.  It was a great evening.
    • Congratulations to Ryan Perry who was named Mr. MHS!  Your talent, fashion, interview and presentation was just awesome.  Well done, Ryan!  Also, to the other candidates…you were amazing, too!
    • Congratulations to the AP Research students for their completion of their AP Capstone Projects that will be uploaded and sent to College Board early this week.  Your hard work will pay off. 
    • Thank you to the many students who were part of the AP Saturday Session at MHS on Saturday for the AP Science Program.  Your commitment to your course and our school is tremendous.  Thank you!
    • A final note of thanks to the many AP Students who will complete their final week of preparation before their respective AP Exams begin.  We believe in you!
    • Congratulations to Shannon Hurley and Carissa Chane for being named to the State Student Advisory Committee for the 2019-2020 school year.  

  1. Student Council Elections Officer Elections – Thursday, May 2
    • Student Council Executive Board elections will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 during all four lunches.  Please take a moment and vote for the group of student leaders who will guide our school for the 2019-2020 school year. 
    • Best of luck to all of the candidates.

  1. Special Olympics Pep Rally – Friday, May 3
    • The Special Olympics Pep Rally is happening this Friday in the Gym!  As we take time to celebrate our athletes…I ask that we deck out in Black and Orange to show our Sachem Pride and our support to our Special Olympians!  Get ready for a great event!
    • We are so proud of our athletes and can’t wait to honor and celebrate you on Friday!

  1.  Walk For Water – Sunday, May 5
    • The MHS Key Club will be hosting their annual Walk for Water event at MHS on Sunday, May 5 beginning at 9:00am.  Please come and make a difference.  Please see any member of the Key Club for more information.


  1. Class Officer Nomination Papers Available – May 6
    • If you are interested in running for Class Office for the 2019-2020 school year, nomination papers will be available beginning on Monday, May 6, 2019. 

  1. Class of 2019 Student Speaker Try-outs:
    • Members of the Class of 2019…represent your class at graduation or at the other senior events by being named one of the senior speakers.  Please sign up with me in the main office for your interest.  Speeches will need to be presented to a committee and our speakers will be determined based on the speech and the message that you are sending to capture the essence of the Class of 2019.  Do not miss out on this great opportunity!

  1.  Academic Honor Society Induction – Tuesday, May 7, 2019
    • MHS will be honoring a number of students into the many outstanding Academic Honor Societies that MHS provides.  This event will begin at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  Congratulations to all of those who will be inducted on Tuesday evening!  Could not be more proud to celebrate your academic accomplishments!

  1.  National College/Future Signing Day – Mark Your Calendars – May 17
    • This message is for the Class of 2019!  Mark your calendar for Friday, May 17, 2019 as MHS celebrates your future plans after you graduate from MHS.  Please wear your college gear on that Friday as we proudly take your photo with you sign your National College Signing Day Pledge to StartSTRONG for a great future.  Your pictures will proudly be displayed on the FinishedSTRONG Wall in the main lobby.  Students attending a four-year, two-year, technical, military and/or workforce are encouraged to participate on this day during Block 3.  Let the celebration begin!

  1. Class of 2020 – Junior Prom – Saturday, May 11, 2019
    • Tickets for the Class of 2020 Junior Prom will be sold all of this week in the main office for this very special event which will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019.  Tickets are $40.00 per person. 
    • If you are bringing a guest that does not attend MHS…you MUST complete a permission slip for your guest and return to the main office by the deadline date.  There is no exception to this.  Please see Mrs. Jameson for more information or questions.

  1.   Spring Concert – May 8, 2019 – Mark Your Calendar
    • The annual Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  We look forward to a wonderful event. 

  1.   MASC Summer Leadership Conference (Camp) – July 7 – 11, 2019
·         A friendly reminder to all members of the Student Council to do not forget to register for the MASC Summer Leadership Conference this summer at Worcester State University.  Information is available from Mr. Branagan’s office.  You do not want to miss this.

Week of April 22 – April 26, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great spring vacation!  It is hard to believe that we are approaching the final month of the school year for the Class of 2019!  I totally remember the day that this outstanding class entered our school.  To the underclassmen…be sure to watch this tremendous group of seniors as they complete their final weeks of the school year.  The month of May is filled with so many great events and milestones of an academic career.  From Advanced Placement Testing, Math MCAS tests, the Junior Prom, Honor Society Inductions, Special Olympics Pep Rally and the kick-off to senior week…May is really a very exciting month!  Here are a few items for this week!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • Job well done to each of you for your commitment to your mid-semester exams that were held the week before we left for the vacation. 
    • To the seniors who attended the Senior Trip to Florida, I could not be more proud to be your principal!  What a great week we had celebrating your high school career in the Sunshine State!  The week was filled with great memories. 

  1. Student Council Officer Nominations for 2019 – 2020 Begins:
    • Nomination papers for anyone interested in running for the Student Council Executive Board for next year….all completed nomination papers are available from my office beginning on Monday, April 22, 2019.  The positions include, president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, historian, publicity coordinator and event coordinator.  All completed nominatin papers are due back to Mr. Branagan no later than Friday, April 26, 2019.  Please see Mr. Branagan or Mr. Siciliano with any questions.

  1. Class of 2021 Ring Assembly – Tuesday, April 23
·         Josten’s Company, which is a proud partner with Middleborough High School will host a brief assembly on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 12:30pm to present the Class of 2021 Class Ring options for our current sophomores.  All sophomores will attend this meeting and receive the important information regarding purchasing a class ring. 

  1.  Special Olympics Pep Rally - Friday, May 3, 2019
    • The Special Olympics Pep Rally is happening next Friday in the Gym!  As we take time to celebrate our athletes…I ask that we deck out in Black and Orange to show our Sachem Pride and our support to our Special Olympians!  Get ready for a great event!


  1. Class of 2019 - Reminders - The Countdown Begins!
    • If you have not paid your senior dues as of now…you must do so immediately.  You can see Mrs. Holmgren in the main office to pay your dues.
    • Senior Debt:  Please see Mrs. Deggendorf in the main office to check to see if you are on the debt list. 
    • Graduation Speaker:  If you are interested in trying out to be the Class of 2019 Graduation Speaker, you must sign-up with me in the main office.  Auditions will be conducted in a few short weeks.  So, start writing your speeches!

  1. Class of 2020 - Reminders:
    • Junior Prom Tickets will begin shortly during all four lunches.  Tickets are $40.00 per person.  Please be reminded that the junior prom will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 6:00 – 11:00pm at the Middleborough Town Hall.  Please be listening to announcements for the start of ticket sales!

     7.  FamilySTRONG Meeting – Wednesday, April 24, 2019
·         Communicating with Teens and Parents
o   Wednesday, April 24, 2019, Dr. Suzanne Jafferian of Amber Sky Counseling in Plympton will discuss ways parents and teens can better communicate with each other.  Dr. Jafferian has over twenty years of experience of working with teens and their families.  She will share ideas that have worked for those in her practice and with her own children, and her daughter will offer practical ideas that she has found helpful in getting through to her parents. 
o   This event is open to both parents/guardian and students.

     8.  MASC Summer Leadership Conference (Camp) – July 7 – 11, 2019
·         A friendly reminder to all members of the Student Council to do not forget to register for the MASC Summer Leadership Conference this summer at Worcester State University.  Information is available from Mr. Branagan’s office.  You do not want to miss this.  Space for this incredible week is filling fast! 

     9.  College Planning Night – Workshop #2 – Class of 2020
·         The next College Planning Workshop is being held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the MHS Auditorium.  The workshop will begin at 6:30pm.  The workshop that will be presented is College Planning Night for Juniors and their Families – What Should You Be Doing Over the Summer. 
·         Please reach out to the Guidance Department with any questions. 
·         This workshop is open to all members of the Class of 2020.

     10.  STW Coffee House – Thursday, April 25
·         The next Coffee House hosted by the STW will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 6:00pm in the Black Box Theater.  Come one, come all!  Please see Mrs. Duggan or any STW Officer with any questions.

Week of April 8 – April 12, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend.  This is a very important week at Middleborough High School.  We begin the week with our mid-semester exams!  I feel confident that each of you is ready for the important work on Monday and Tuesday that you will have.  I want you to know how proud I am of the work you are doing this semester and your performance on your exams will show how hard you are working.  Hard work pays off!  Also, this week begins the final quarter of the school year…can you believe it?  Please think back to the first day of school when you signed your class banner to commit to finishing STRONG!  We are in the home stretch and it is important for you evaluate your goals and commit to excellence.  June will be here before you know it!  I want each of you to finish strong and to feel accomplished!  I believe in you!  Well done, Sachems!  As we count down the days to April vacation, let me remind each of you to ensure that you finish this week strong and realize how much you can accomplish!  We have a very busy week ahead…so, let’s go!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • Congratulations to the Student Council for receiving the SEMASC Excellence Award for the 2018 – 2019 school year.  Also, a special note of congratulations to Ryan Perry for being named the 2019 SEMASC Unsung Hero at the SEMASC Spring Conference last week. 
    • Congratulations to Declan Hastings for being named the SEMASC Webmaster for the 2019 – 2020 school year.  Declan, we are so proud of you and the seat you will have on the SEMASC Executive Board.
    • Congratulations to Chase Holyoke for receiving the prestigious Chris McGunniess Award for Leadership on Wednesday at the Spring SEMASC Conference.
    • Congratulations to Chris Cogan for being selected to represent Middleborough High School at the American Legion Boys State Program in June.
    • Congratulations to Abby McCarthy, Carissa Chane and Shannon Hurley for being selected to represent Middleborough High School at the American Legion Girls State Program in June.
    • Congratulations to Aiden Nemer for being selected to represent Middleborough High School at the Student Trooper Program this summer, which is sponsored by the American Legion.
    • Congratulations to Carissa Chane for representing MHS at the Massachusetts Student Government Day in Boston on Friday.
    • A Special note of congratulations to our Music Program for their outstanding job competing in Washington, D.C.  By all accounts…the trip was amazing!!
    • To our Spring Athletes…well done on a great opening week of the season!  We love victorious Sachems! 

  1. Mid-Semester Exams – Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9, 2019
    • Just a reminder that Mid-Semester Exams will take place on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Block 1 & 2 exams will be administered on Monday, and the school day will end at 1:50pm.  Block 3 & 4 exams will be administered on Tuesday, and the school day will end at 11:00am. 
    • Quarter 4 will begin on Wednesday, April 10, 2019
    • Quarter 3 Report Cards will be distributed to all students on Friday, April 12, 2019.

    • Just a reminder that Tuxedos By Merian will be at MHS during all four lunches on April 10 – 12, 2019 to measure students for their tuxedos for the junior and senior prom.  Prom is coming!!

  1. Class of 2019 - Trip to Florida
    • Just a reminder to all seniors going to Florida over April vacation…all permission slips are now due!  Also, for please be reminded about departure times from MHS on Saturday, April 13.   The countdown has begun!

  1. National Day of Silence – April 10, 2019
·         The Day of Silence is a student-led national event organized in thousands of schools, bringing awareness of LGBTQ issues in schools.  Students are encouraged to show support by picking up a rainbow ribbon on Monday during all four lunches…and Tuesday during break.  Please see any member of the GSA or Ash Baron or Mrs. Milani with any questions.
