Week of May 13 – May 17, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  This is such an exciting time of year for our school.  This past week truly showed the strength the Sachem!  The official groundbreaking for the new Middleborough High School was a special experience for our entire school community.  A note to thanks for everyone who attended.  You made our community proud.  So many of you engaged with confidence with your respective Advanced Placement Testing to show how hard you have worked this year.  I am confident that your results will show excellence. We have one more week of exams and I wish all those who are testing well this week!  Also, to our sophomores who worked very hard to prepare for their Math MCAS Exam next week…you are going to do a great job!  We know you are ready for this exam.  We believe in you!  Finally, a special note to the Class of 2020 who an outstanding Junior Prom on Saturday night!  The entire event was beautiful.  Great ready for a great week!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To the members of our Band, Concert Choir, Orchestra and Sachem Singers…thank you for a wonderful night of talent and music at the annual spring concert last Wednesday.  The concert was outstanding!  Also, the surprise performance of “This Is Me” was outstanding and a moment I will never forget.  Thank you! I was so very proud to be in the audience watching all of you.
    • Congratulations to the Class of 2020 for hosting a wonderful Junior Prom experiencing the City Lights. The night was beautiful!  A note of sincere thanks and appreciation to Carissa Chane, Declan Hastings, Juli Carrington, Avery Thomas and Olivia Ventresca for your outstanding leadership and planning of the Junior Prom.  Job well done!
    • Congratulations to the Class of 2020 Junior Prom Court
                                          i.    Matt Desrosiers, Olivia Ventresca, Chris Cogan, Tori Warner, Nathan Curpenski, Erin Graham, Mike Govoni and Caitlin Swanson for being named the Class of 2020 Junior Prom Court. 
                                         ii.    Congratulations to Michael Govoni and Tori Warner for being named the Junior Prom King and Queen! 
                                        iii.    A special note of appreciation to Brandon Hogan and Sydney Littlefield, the Junior Prom King and Queen for the Class of 2019 who came to do the honor of crowning the Junior Prom King and Queen.
    • Congratulations to the 125 newest members of the MHS Academic Honor Societies who were inducted last week!  We are so proud of you.
    • Thank you to Owen McCarthy, Mandi Bukunt and Natalia Parkinson for their participation in the Groundbreaking Ceremony on Thursday.  You were awesome.
    • Thank you to Kassidey Cragin for your beautiful signage that you created for the Groundbreaking Ceremony.  It was a wonderful touch to the reception. 
    • Thank you to the Concert Choir, Orchestra and Band for being a part of the Groundbreaking Ceremony.  The National Anthem, musical selection and of course…the Fight Song was a wonderful treat at the Ceremony.  Thank you!
    • Congratulations to Jake Studley and Abby Wager for being named the South Shore League Scholar-Athletes for the Class of 2019 from MHS.  It was an honor to share in your special recognition this past week.
    • Congratulations to Josh Young for being named the Student-Athlete of the Month for the MIAA.  We are so proud of you, Josh!
    • To our spring athletic teams for their incredible work to make Middleborough proud!  I look forward to being name the numerous games to watch Sachem Pride in action! 



  1. Math MCAS Exams - Class of 2021
    • The Class of 2021 will participate in the Math MCAS Exam on Tuesday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 22.  This is the final push for you and your preparation for MCAS.  You will do great!  Feel confident that you are ready for this very important assessment.  We believe in you!
    • Be sure to prepare your laptop and charger for the online testing you will experience for the Math MCAS.

  1. Senior Exams - May 20– 22, 2019
    • Just a reminder to the senior class that final exams will begin on Monday, May 20 for Orange Day classes, which will be full-day of school.  On Tuesday and Wednesday will be exams for Black day classes, which will have a 10:15am dismissal for SENIORS ONLY!  Please refer to the senior final activities schedule for more information.

  1. National Honor Society & Silver M Induction – Thursday, May 16
    • MHS will honor the newest members of the National Honor Society and the Silver M Society on Thursday, May 16 with a very special induction ceremony at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  Congratulations to all of our newest members of NHS.  Beyond proud of you and your accomplishments. 

  1. National College/Future Signing Day  - Friday, May 17
    • The Class of 2019 will be celebrated with the annual National College/Future Signing Day on Friday, May 17.  I ask that all seniors wear their college apparel or new school colors on Friday for your picture to be taking singing your pledge to StartSTRONG in your new journey.  This program will take place during Block 3 in the Main Lobby.  Seniors…you do not want to miss this.  Please note this program is for all seniors who are attending a four-year, two-year, technical college, military or other job career training program!  Class of 2019…take your place on the FinishedSTRONG Wall!

  1. Senior Class Night - Friday, May 17 - 7:00pm
    • Attention members of the Class of 2019!  Please come and celebrate with your classmates at the Senior Class Night on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 7:00pm in the MHS Gym.  Be sure to come hungry!  Seniors…this event marks the beginning of the celebration of your high school experience.  Do not miss out on this.  This event is for the members of the senior class only.  See you there!



  1. That’s Entertainment 41 - May 23 – 25, 2019
    • Get ready, MHS!!  Speech and Theatre Workshop proudly present, That’s Entertainment 41.  I hope to see many of you in the audience showing support of the cast and crew of That’s E!  Each Performance begins at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.

  1.  Join Student Council - Nomination Papers are available next week!
    • Nomination papers to join the MHS Student Council for the upcoming school year will be available beginning on Friday, May 17.  Do not miss out on being a part of this nationally recognized organization.  Make a difference in your school.


  1. Class Election Day - Friday, May 17
    • Election speeches will take place on Friday morning for all candidates running for class officer positions for the 2019-2020 school year.  Class meeting will take place as follows:
                                         i.    Class of 2022 - 7:30am
                                       ii.    Class of 2021 - 8:15am
                                      iii.    Class of 2020 - 8:50am
                                      iv.    Class of 2019 - 9:45am (Senior Meeting to prepare for Senior Activities)
    • Voting will take place during all four lunches.  Best of luck to all of the candidates.

  1.  Middleborough Art Show - Friday, May 24
    • MHS is so very excited to host the Middleborough Public Schools Art Show to Middleborough High School Gym on Friday, May 24.  The art show will be held from 2:00 – 6:00pm and I sincerely hope to see many of you to come and support our many student artists!

  1.  Senior Mystery Ride – Saturday, May 18
    • The Senior Mystery Ride will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019 and permission slips are available in the main office.  Please see Sydney Montross, Mr. Reynolds or Mrs. Cobb with any questions.  Seniors…you do not want to miss out on this event!

  1.  Chipotle Night – Tuesday, May 14
    • The MHS Best Buddies Chapter will be hosting a Chipotle Night at the Chipotle at 421 New State Highway in Raynham from 5:00 – 9:00pm.  Come and support this great organization and enjoy a great meal with your friends. 

  1.  Book Club Meeting – Monday, May 13
    • The Book Club will meet on Monday, May 13 at 2:00pm in the MHS Library.  Please see Mrs. Phillips with any questions.

  1.   2019 – 2020 Student Academic Schedules
    • On Friday, May 10, 2019, all students in Grades 9 – 11 received their course schedules for next year.  This schedule does NOT include your teachers and the block of the day…it is merely the listing of courses that you will have next year.  
    • Please read the letter from the Guidance Department very carefully as you review your courses for next year. 
    • The Guidance Department will be in the Cafeteria during all lunches to meet with the following:
                                         i.    Week of May 13 – 17 – Class of 2020
                                       ii.    Week of May 20 – 24 – Class of 2021
                                      iii.    Week of May 28 and Friday, May 31 – Class of 2022
    • Please reach out to your guidance counselor with any questions.

  1.   College Fair – Bridgewater State University – May 21, 2019
    • Attention Class of 2020…please consider attending the College Fair Field Trip on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 to Bridgewater State University.  This evert is FREE to all juniors.  Please see Ash Baron in Guidance for a permission ship. You do not want to miss this. 

  1.   Special Olympics State Games – Boston University – June 7     
    • Attention all members of the Student Council.   Come and be a part of the opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics State Games at Boston University on Friday, June 7, 2019.  Buses will leave MHS at 2:30pm.  Permission slips are available in the main office and is open to all members of the Student Council…including seniors.  You do not want to miss out on this very special and inspirational event.  Please see Mr. Branagan or Mr. Siciliano with any questions.
