Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  This will be the final bulletin of the 2018 – 2019 school year.  Words can’t express how proud I am for each of you for FinishingSTRONG!  You have shown true Sachem Pride in everything you have done this year.  Be proud of your accomplishments.  You have earned a well-deserved rest and I hope you have the best of the summer vacation!  I will be counting down the days to get you back here to your home away from home…MHS!  Here are a few items for the week ahead.  Here are a few items for the week ahead.  J


  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
·         Congratulations to the MHS Softball Team for an outstanding season.  Additionally, to the seniors…that you for modeling with hard work and determination looks like.  We will miss you!
·         Thank you to Chris Cogan for representing MHS at the Boys State Program this week.
·         Thank you to Carissa Chane, Abby McCarthy and Shannon Hurley for representing MHS at the Girls State Program this week.
·         Thank you to Eden Eugenio, Aileen Peddie, Colby Allen, Mandi Bukunt and Matt Medeiros for your kindness and leadership for helping a family in need on Saturday at Town Hall.  Your kindness does not go unnoticed.
·         Congratulations to Julia Masse, Gabe Evirs and Emma Teceno for their recognition for their participation in the Letters About Literature national reading and writing contest sponsored by the Library of Congress.  We are beyond proud of you and your hard work.  Your letters were outstanding.
·         Best wishes to the 12 members of the MHS Student Council who will represent MHS at the upcoming National Conference for Student Council. The school delegation leaves next Sunday morning for Pennsylvania!
·         Best wishes to the delegation of world travelers heading off to Ireland and Scotland in early July for an amazing experience.  You will love every moment!

  1. Final Exams – June 17 & 18, 2019
    • Final exams will take place on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  The exam schedule will be as follows:
                                          i.    Monday, June 17 – BLOCK 1 & 2 EXAMS – Full Day of School
                                         ii.    Tuesday, June 18 – BLOCK 3 & 4 EXAMS – 11:00am Dismissal for the high school ONLY!
    • It is my expectation that our hallways are quiet during exams.  Please be respectful of testing, which is taking place throughout the school.

  1.  School Materials:
    • It is very important that you return all school materials, such as textbooks, and athletic equipment.  Anything that is not returned will result in having your name placed on the debt list.  Please do not forget to return your textbooks to your teachers.


  1.  Laptop Collection – Wednesday, June 19
·         Please be reminded that all laptops, power cords and cases are being collected on Wednesday, June 19.  All students are expected to return their device, case and charger for processing and updating this summer.
·         If you have borrowed a laptop from the Library, you must return the device to Mrs. Phillips for cataloging. 

     5.   Class of 2020 – Senior Trip to Florida!
·         Attention Class of 2020!!  Do not forget to bring in your deposit for the Senior Class Trip to Florida in April, 2020!  A deposit of $100.00 is due to Mr. Branagan.  Please see him with any questions!  Get ready for a great trip!

6.  Class of 2020 - College Boot Camp
    • Reminder to the Class of 2020…if you have not signed up to take part in the College Boot Camp during the month of August there is still time to do so!  You do not want to miss out on this opportunity to complete the important work in Naviance to set up for your college application process.  Also, you will leave the Boot Camp with your college essay completed!  Please bring the completed registration form to Mrs. Holmgren in the main office.  You do not want to miss out on this great opportunity to get a jump start on the college application process!

7.    Summer Enrichment & Work:
·         Summer Enrichment material and information is located on the Summer Enrichment Page on the MHS Website. 
·         Students enrolled in AP Classes will have Summer Work that must be done before the beginning of the new school year.  Please plan yourself accordingly.  A little bit each week and help your achieve success and start the new year strong!
·         Please check out the MHS website and click on the Parent & Student Tab to locate all of your materials electronically. 


8.    Summer Mailing - Be on the look-out!
a.    A summer mailing, which will include your Quarter IV Report Card will be send home by the first week of July.  Please be on the look-out for important information that will be included in this very important summer mailing.

9.   2019 – 2020 Academic Schedules
·         Within your summer mailing…you will receive a copy of the list of courses that you have been enrolled in for the 2019 – 2020 school year.  This is the final draft of our schedule.  We will be finalizing the schedule over the summer and will begin placing your schedule into “blocks” and assign teachers.  Your schedule, which will include teacher name and block assigned, will be distributed on the first day of school.  Any changes that you have requested to make to your schedule will be noted within the schedule that you will receive in the summer mailing that will arrive to your home by the end of the month of June. 

Lastly, please know how proud I am of all that you have accomplished this year.  You have worked hard!  I hope you are leaving to begin your summer vacation feeling a sense of accomplishment and your goals for the year have been met.  Please know…when you return in September…we will raise the bar even higher.  You will be ready to meet this expectation…and even exceed it!  I know you will do it!  I am so proud to be your principal.

    • Congratulations to the Class of 2022 who participated in the Biology MCAS Exams this past week.  From all accounts…you worked hard and tried your best.  We are very proud of you!

    • Final exams will take place on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  The exam schedule will be as follows:
                                          i.    Monday, June 17 - Blocks 1 & 2 - Orange Day (FULL DAY)
1.    Block 1 Exam - 7:20 – 8:55am
2.    Block 2 Exam - 9:00 – 10:30am

  1. Quarter IV Closes – Thursday, June 13
    • Just a reminder to all students that Quarter IV will close on Thursday, June 13, 2019.  Friday, June 14, 2019 will be a formal review day and preparation day for final exams and other review sessions led by your teachers.  Be sure to begin organizing your notes for exams.

  1. Class of 2020 - Senior Class Trip to Florida
    • Do not forget to sign-up for the Class of 2020 Senior Class Trip to Florida over April vacation!  Sign-up with Mr. Branagan in the main office!  You do not want to miss out on this one-in-a-lifetime experience.
    • If you know you are going on the trip but will not have the $100.00 before you leave for the summer…please see Mr. Branagan to get your name on the list. 

  1. Flag Day and Honor Ceremony - Wednesday, June 12
    • It is with pleasure to share that MHS will participate in a very special Flag Day and Honor Ceremony on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 9:30am.  Working with the American Legion and the Middleborough Honor Guard, the high school will add the newest of Sachems to the Wall of Honor, which is located in the Front Foyer of the high school.  Graduates from the Class of 2019 entering military service will be honored as they take their place on the Wall of Honor. We are very much looking forward to this very special event on Wednesday.

  1. Fall Sports Sign-Up – Tuesday, June 11
    • Attention all fall athletes!  If you are planning on playing a sport in the fall, you must attend the Fall Sports Sign-Up Meeting on Tuesday at 2:00pm in the Gym.  Please see Mr. Sylvia with any questions.

  1.  Underclassman Award Night - Monday, June 10
    • The Underclassman Award Night will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  For all students who received an invitation to this very special event…we look forward to seeing you on Monday evening with your family!

  
  1. Class of 2020 Meeting – Tuesday, June 11
    • There will be a special meeting for the Class of 2020 on Tuesday morning at 7:30am in the Auditorium.  The purpose of this meeting is share a presentation with you from our school photographer, Lifetouch Photography in regard to your senior pictures.  Also, upon the conclusion of the presentation, the MHS Guidance Department will meet with the class regarding college and career planning as you approach senior year.

  1. Community Service Fair – Wednesday, June 12
    • The first annual Community Service Fair will be held on Wednesday, June 12 during Block 3 in the cafeteria.   Students will have an opportunity to engage and meet with many community partners about potential community service opportunities during the summer.
    • Please be reminded that all students must have 24-hours completed community service hours in order to graduate.  This fair could be a great way to get some of our hours completed.  Please see Mrs. McGurk with any questions.

  1. Spring Sports Night – Wednesday, June 12
    • The annual Spring Sports Night will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 6:30pm in the MHS Auditorium.  This is the annual celebration of all of our spring athletes.  We look forward to a great evening.

  1. Final Exam Study Crunch – Tuesday, June 11
    • The National Honor Society will be hosting their Study Crunch for final exams on Tuesday, June 11 from 2:00 – 3:30pm in the Library.  Come and study and prepare for your final exams. 

  1.  The Pride Picnic – Wednesday, June 12
    • The GSA will be hosting their end of the year celebration with their Pride Picnic at the Outdoor Classroom on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 2:00 – 3:00pm.  All are welcome!

  1.  Middleborough Public Library Teen Event – Saturday, June 15
    • The Middleborough Public Library is hosting Mini-Golf on Saturday, June 15, 2019 between 9:00am and 2:00pm.  Come and see the library transformed into a mini-golf course.  Also, please be reminded that Teen Game Night will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 5:00 – 8:00pm. Pizza will be served!

Week of June 3 – June 7, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  On Saturday, June 1, 2019, we graduated 172 seniors who truly made a difference in our school and truly left their legacy behind.  I was proud of each of them as they took their step to receive their high school diploma and to begin the next chapter of their lives.  They truly were a great class.  As we begin to approach the end of another school year, it is important to reflect on the goals that you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.  Have you met them?  What challenges did you face?  How do you promise yourself to finish this year STRONG? I want success for each of you…and it this is the time to picture yourself walking to receive your diploma in June of 2020, 2021 and 2022.  It will be here before you know it.  Here are a few things for the week ahead!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To our Concert Choir for their amazing voices as they performed at Senior Last Assembly and Graduation.  Your voices were beautiful!
    • To the MHS Band for their help with the graduation exercises.  As always, you sound amazing.
    • To the Student Council Executive Board and Class Executive Boards, and Student Council Representatives, thank you for all of your help and service as you help seat hundreds of family and friends at the senior events last week and Graduation on Saturday.  Your commitment did not go unnoticed.  Thank you!
    • To the TV Production students…thank you for capturing the special moments of senior week and graduation.  We would be lost without you!
    • Congratulations to Jake Studley who competed in javelin at the All-State Track Meet at Westfield State University on Saturday afternoon right after he walked out of MHS with his diploma!  So proud of your commitment to the Black and Orange.
    • Congratulations to Caitlin Swanson who competed in the All-State Meet at Westfield State University on Saturday.  She competed in the 800 event and was one of the top 24 athletes in this event to compete from the entire state.  Well done, Caitlin.
    • Best of luck to our Baseball Team, Softball Team, Boys and Girls Lacrosse and the Boys and Girls Tennis Team as they begin their journey in tournament play this week.  Make us proud!!

  1. Biology MCAS Testing - June 4 - 6, 2019
    • The remaining members of the Class of 2022 who have yet to take the Biology MCAS Exam will sit for this very important assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week during Block 1 & 2.
    • On Thursday, June 6, 2019 this cohort of freshmen will participate in the Biology MCAS Online Field Test as mandated by the DESE.  This field test will take during Block 1.
    • It is with great confidence that this cohort of ninth-graders will do very well on their MCAS Exam this week.  We believe in you!

  1. MHS Career Fair – Wednesday, June 5, 2019
    • The annual Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 for all sophomore and juniors in the MHS Gym.  We look forward to the many career experts coming to share how they got started in their respective careers.  Should be a good morning for our sophomores and juniors. The Career Fair will take place during Block 2.

    • For all students who were selected to be an Orientation Leader for the StartSTRONG Program this summer, there is a very important informational meeting that will take place on Monday, June 3 at 6:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  All OL’s should be in attendance.  Please see Tori Warner, Mr. Siciliano or myself with any questions or concerns!  We are getting excited about welcoming the Class of 2023 to Middleborough High School!

  1.  FinishSTRONG Night - June 10, 2019
    • Watch your mail this week, Sachems!  On Monday, June 10, 2019 MHS will host the annual Underclassman Award Night/FinishSTRONG at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  For those of you who receive an invitation to your home this week…we do hope you and your parents/guardians will join us for a special celebration of you for your academic excellence. 

  1.  Student Council Nomination Papers Due:
    • Nomination Papers to serve on Student Council are still available for all students from the main office.  Nomination papers are due on Friday, June 7 at 2:00pm.

  1. The Middleborough Pop-Up Library – Tuesday, June 4
    • The final Pop-Up Library of the Year will take place on Tuesday, June 4th during all four lunches. 
    • Be sure to have your public library card and you are automatically entered it the raffle for a Dunkin’ Card. 
    • Please see Mrs. Phillips in the Library with any questions.
    • Also, mark your calendars and attend the Space Mini-Golf event at the Middleborough Public Library on Saturday, June 15th.

Week of May 27 – May 31, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  This is one of the most exciting weeks at Middleborough High School with celebration of our seniors.  I hope that for our underclassmen that you take an opportunity to think about what you want your high school journey to be about.  How do you want to be remembered?  What will be your legacy?  As you see the final weeks of the school year approach, take a moment and think about yourself in you cap and gown and walking out into the world.  It will come quickly…and I want to be sure that we can celebrate all of the amazing things that you have accomplished as a student at MHS.  Please know how proud I am of each of you!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To the cast and crew of the “That’s Entertainment 41”…CONGRATULATIONS on a great show!  “Breaking Badly” was awesome!  It was so awesome watching each of you perform.  A great weekend for Middleborough!
    • Congratulations to all of our art students for the outstanding art pieces on display the Art Show on Friday.  Our gym was crowded with parents, community members and current and future Sachems…and all were in awe of your work.  I was so proud to see your amazing work!  Well done!
    • Congratulations to the MHS Band and Majorettes for their participation in the Memorial Day Events at the Town Hall.  Your participation is truly appreciated!
    • Best of luck to all of our athletic teams as they will play their final games of the regular season this week.  Sachem Pride!
    • Congratulations to Jake Studley who was named the Eastern Mass D4 State Champion in the Javelin event.  Well done, Jake!
    • Congratulations to the Spring Track Team for their outstanding showing at the Eastern Massachusetts Championship Meet!  Beyond proud of you!
    • Congratulations to the Softball Team, Baseball Team and Boys Lacrosse, for taking their place in their respective tournaments.  Tournament play begins on June 3, 2019! 

  1. Biology MCAS is coming - June 4 & 5, 2019
    • The next round of Biology MCAS is quickly approaching for MHS.  For the students who are currently enrolled in Biology will be sitting for their MCAS Assessment in Biology on Tuesday, June 4 & Wednesday, June 6.  We want to wish our students testing well…we know you are ready for this!
    • The Biology MCAS Test will be done on paper.  This exam is NOT computer based as this time.

  1. Class of 2020 - Senior Class Trip to Florida - April 2020
·         Attention all members of the Class of 2020!  April Vacation will be here before you know it and you do not want to miss out on a MHS tradition…the Senior Class Trip to Florida.  If you did not get the informational flyer distributed at your class meeting…please be sure to pick one up in the main office. 
·         Get ready for a great trip!





  1. STW Annual Meeting & Black and Purple Ball –  Thursday, June 6, 2019
    • The annual Speech and Theater Workshop will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 1:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  The 2019 – 2020 STW Officers will be elected and planning for the upcoming year will be conducted.  Be on the look-out all STW Members for meeting information.
    • Also, following their meeting, the STW will host their final event of the year with their Black and Purple Ball, which will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 6:00pm in the Black Box Theater.  Please see Mrs. Duggan for more information.

  1. Middleborough High School Career Fair – Wednesday, June 5, 2019
    • The annual Career Fair will be held for the Class of 2020 and 2021 on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in the morning.  Thank you to the MHS Guidance Department for their planning of this very engaging and informative event.  

  1. Advanced Placement Night - CANCELLED
    • Attention all students who are enrolled in an AP Course for the 2019 – 2020 school year!  Due to tremendous conflicts with AP Teachers and students potentially that evening…it has been decided to CANCEL this evening event and create and opportunity for all AP Students to meet with their respective teachers at a time during the school day before the end of the school year.  More to come on this event.  However, please note there will not be an evening for parents and students this year. 
    • Thank you for your understanding.

  1.  Guidance Counselors in the Cafeteria - May 28 – May 30
    • The MHS Guidance Department will be located in the Cafeteria during ALL four lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week to work with any student in the Class of 2022 with reviewing their academic schedule for next year.
    • PLEASE NOTE:  It is imperative all any schedule/course changes be made BEFORE the close of the school year.  The schedule will close on June 17, 2019.
    • Please reach out to your Guidance Counselor with any questions or concerns.

  1.  Join Student Council – Nomination Papers Available – Due June 7
    • Nomination Papers are now available to join Student Council for next year.  Be a representative for the Student Council.  Nomination Papers are available in the main office. 


9.   Special Olympics Opening State Games – Boston University – June 7
·         Attention all members of Student Council!!  Be a part of a great night celebrating and honoring the Middleborough Delegation attending the State Games for Special Olympics.  Buses leave at 2:45pm to head to BU for a night of volunteering and being “Fans in the Stand” for the Opening Games.  Permission Slips are now available from Mr. Branagan or Mr. Siciliano in the main office.


10.  Senior Walk - Class of 2019 - Friday, May 31, 2019
    • The members of the Class of 2019 will be participating in their Senior Walk around town on Friday, May 31, 2019.  It is the goal for the class to finish their walk at MHS.  They seniors will be walking through the school to help celebrate where their educational journey in Middleborough will end.  Get ready for the rolling rally on Friday.
    • Buses will leave MHS between 10:30 – 11:00am from the high school.

11.  Class of 2018 - Graduation Exercises - June 1, 2019
    • The Class of 2018 will complete their educational journey in Middleborough on Saturday, June 1, 2019 beginning at 10:30am in the MHS Gym!  Please take note of the outstanding contributions that this class has given to our school.  I want to wish this truly amazing class my very best!
    • Please note the parking letter that was sent home to all parents/guardians of the Class of 2019 regarding parking on campus for the Class of 2019 Graduation Exercises. 

     12.  Internet Safety Presentation – Wednesday, May 29, 2019
·         The high school will welcome Ms. Katie Greer for a very important and informative conversation on Internet Safety.  Katie is a former intelligence analyst for the Massachusetts State Police and she will present to all students in Grades 9 – 11 at 7:30am in the morning in the MHS Auditorium
·         Ms. Greer will host a very important evening for parents on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 6:00pm at the Nichols Middle School Auditorium.  This evening presentation is for parents/guardians only.

     13.  Senior Week Events – Class of 2019
·         Tuesday, May 28
