Branagan’s Bulletin
Week of December 17 – 21, 2018

I hope all of you had a great weekend!  It is amazing that we are on the doorstep to a well-deserved holiday break, which will begin at the close of school on Friday, December 21, 2018.  I am so proud of the work that each of you is doing to help make our school the best it can be. This will be the final Bulletin for 2018.  As I reflect on the last few months of the school year…I am amazed by the tremendous work that each of you have done both inside and outside of the classroom.  I am very proud of each of you and your outstanding contributions to making our school even better.  As we approach 2019…let’s be sure that the Giant that is Middleborough High School becomes even stronger of a school.  I know we can do this together!  Remember…we are SachemSTRONG!
As we close out this week of school...I have a few items of interest!  So, here we go!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To the MHS Band, Orchestra, Concert Choir and Sachem Singers for putting on an outstanding Holiday Concert on Wednesday evening!  The guests were raving of the performances and I could not be more proud of each of you!  You truly demonstrated the meaning of Sachem Pride through music and song.  Good stuff! 
    • Congratulations to the STW for their outstanding Holiday Coffee House.  The energy and pride coming from the Black Box was just awesome.  So proud of you and this organization.
    • To the Student Council for their tremendous work on sponsoring the numerous projects to help our community during this time of giving.  You collected enough food for the pantry and toys for the Giving Tree to help make the holidays brighter for many in our community.  You gave so much…thank you!

  1. ASVAB Exam - Tuesday, December 18:
    • The ASVAB Exam will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in the MHS Library.  The Library will be closed during Blocks 1 & 2 as students taking the ASVAB Exam will be in the library.  Good luck to all those taking this important exam for military entrance.

  1.  Alumni College Fair - Friday, December 21, 2018
    • MHS will host our Fourth Annual Alumni College Fair on Friday, December 21, 2018 during Block 3 & 4.  Please come to the MHS Gym during your assigned lunch and visit the close to 100 alumni that are back to share with you their college experience.  The Alumni College Fair is open to all students! 
    • During Block 4, the Alumni will host Major Mania in the Cafeteria.  Come and learn about their respective majors as you begin to plan our own path. 
    • I want to thank all of our alumni for coming home to share your story of your college success!  We can’t wait to see you on Friday!

  1. Student Council Celebrates the Holidays:
    • The annual Holiday Party with the Conway House will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 6:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria!  I hope many Student Council members will be in attendance for this annual event.
                                         i.    Class of 2021 & 2022 - Please bring an entrée to share
                                        ii.    Class of 2019 & 2020 - Please bring a dessert and drink to share

  1.  GSA Holiday Party:
    • The GSA will host a holiday party on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Black Box.  All students are welcome to this event.

  1.  Holiday Spirit Week – Sponsored by Student Council
    • Get ready for a great week of Sachem Pride…Holiday Style!

  1. National Honor Society Tutoring:
    • The National Honor Society is sponsoring a wonderful program for students who may need some extra help with homework, organizational skills and preparing for an exam.  If you think this is you…please reach out to Mrs. Gleavy (Room 304) or Mr. Goldman (Guidance Office).  Tutoring forms can be found in the main office. 

  1.  SEMASC Winter Conference – January 10, 2019
    • Attention all members of the Student Council.  If you are interested in representing MHS at the SEMASC Winter Conference on Thursday, January 10, 2019, please stop by the main office and sign-up of Mr. Branagan’s office.  This conference is an after-school event.  This event is open to any member of the Student Council.

  1. Special Olympics Unified Bocce Tournament – January 12, 2019
    • Attention all members of the Student Council.  Come and be a part of a great day of unified sports.  The annual Unified Bocce Tournament will be held at Walpole High School on Saturday, January 12, 2019.  Come and cheer on the Middleborough teams.  Permission slips are now available outside Mr. Branagan’s office.  You do not want to miss this!

This edition of Branagan’s Bulletin will mark the end of 2018.  I hope each of you take a moment and reflect on the year that you had and prepare for setting goals for the New Year!  Please know how proud I am of you and the work you are doing each and every day.  You are the difference makers in our community!  I am so honored to serve as your principal and I hope we can work together to make 2019 the year that Middleborough High School continues to tell the greatest story ever told.  This story begins with a new chapter with the start of the building of our new high school in February, which is so exciting.  This holiday…I will celebrate our Sachem Pride and the Black and Orange.

Branagan’s Bulletin
Week of December 10 – 14, 2018

I hope all of you had a great weekend!  It is amazing how quickly we are approaching the holiday break, and how amazing this year has been so far.  You are working hard…and it shows.  We need to keep the eye on the prize over the next two weeks and truly focus on the projects and assessments that will take place within your classes as we prepare for the break.  You can do it!  Also, I hope to see many of you at the Holiday Concert on Wednesday evening!  Ok Sachems…here are a few updates for the week ahead!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To the Winter Athletes - I look forward to a great start to your respective seasons with games starting this week!  I hope to see Tribe Nation come to life this season as we continue the work of showing Sachem Pride everywhere!
    • Congratulations to the Key Club for an outstanding Eat to Heat Event on Wednesday night.  You raised a considerable amount of money to pay it forward to help our community.
    • Congratulations to Brandon Hogan for being nominated for the 2019 Otto Graham Award for his outstanding service to the MHS Football Team.  Tribe Nation is so proud of you, Brandon!!

  1.  Parent-Teacher Conferences - Monday, December 10:
    • Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:30pm. You received your appointment cards last week to make times for your parents/guardians to meet with your teachers.  I look forward to a wonderful night of celebrating your learning!

  1. Quarter 2 – Progress Reports – Distributed – Monday, December 10
    • Progress Reports for Quarter II will be distributed on Monday, December 10 at 1:40pm in a special advisory session. 


  1. Student Council Celebrates the Holidays:
    • Final Call for all students to help a family in need.  Please bring in food, a new toy, holiday decorations…anything to help with the many service events that are happening to help our community in need.  All toys and food can be dropped off to the main office by Thursday morning. 
    • The annual Holiday Party with the Conway House will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 6:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria!  Each class is responsible for the following:
                                         i.    Class of 2019 - Dessert and Drinks
                                       ii.    Class of 2020 - Dessert and Drinks
                                      iii.    Class of 2021 - Entrée
                                      iv.    Class of 2022 - Entrée




  1.  Holiday Concert - Wednesday, December 12 - 7:00pm
    • Please join the MHS Music Department for a true MHS tradition with the annual Holiday Concert.  I hope you can make it for a wonderful night of music, talent and holiday spirit.  To the students involved in the concert…I can’t wait to see your wonderful performances.    

  1. The Season of Giving:
    • The deadline is growing closer as the St. Vincent DePaul Society will be coming to MHS on Friday of this week to fill the truck with all of the donated food and toys.  Please take a moment and fill a grocery bag with food for the Middleborough Food Pantry and bring in a new and unwrapped toy for a child in need this holiday.  All food and toys must be in by Thursday, December 13, 2018.  Food and toys can be dropped off to the main office. 

  1.  STW Holiday Coffee House – Thursday, December 13 - 6:00pm
    • Just a reminder to all members of STW that your annual holiday coffee house will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 6:00pm in the Black Box Theatre.  Please see any officer or Mrs. Duggan with any questions.

  1. STW – METG Festival Auditions – December 11, 2018
    • Auditions for the METG Festival will take place on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 5:00pm in the Black Box Theatre. If you are interested in being a part of the cast and crew of the Festival piece…please consider auditioning.  You can also see Mrs. Duggan with any questions.  Can’t wait to see the show, STW!!

  1. American Oratorical Competition – December 2018
    • Attention Students!  If you are interested in public speaking and have a love for Constitutional History and Government…then you may want to consider this very prestigious contest and scholarship program.  Please see Mr. Branagan or Mr. DeFelice for more information on the program. 

  1.  Student Government Day – Spring 2019
    • If you are interested in representing MHS at the annual Student Government Day in Boston, please pick up the self-nomination form from either the History Office or Mr. Branagan.  All self-nomination forms are due back to Mr. Osgood no later than Friday, December 14, 2018.

  1.  PSAT Results This Week – Stay Tuned!
    • The PSAT Results for Grade 10 and 11 students will be out this week.  Please be watching your school emails for how to access your scores.  More to come!
    • For Grade 9 students….your scores will be coming very soon.  Stay tuned.

Week of December 3 – 7, 2018

I hope each of you had a wonderful weekend.  As we quickly approach the beginning of the holiday break, which is needed very much by all of us, it is important to give 110% each day to your studies.  I expect excellence from each of you and I hope that this final push to vacation will allow focus to end the next three weeks strong.  During the next three weeks, I hope you will take a moment and thank the people in this school who have been there for you and are making a difference in your life.  Here are a few items for this week:

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • To our Winter Athletes for a great week of try-outs!  I am looking forward to the first games of the season!  I love this time of year!
    • To all of the MHS Students who helped with the Holiday Extravaganza at the MKG on Friday evening…Thank you!

  1. Eat to Heat- Wednesday, December 5, 2018
    • The MHS Key Club will be hosting their annual Eat to Heat on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in the MHS Cafeteria.  This event raises money to help those in need with heating their home this winter.  We hope to have a full house at this annual event. 
    • Reservations times are 5:00pm and 6:30pm. 
    • Please see a member of Key Club or Ms. Adelman or Mr. Reynolds for any questions.  I hope to see you there!

  1. Student Council Celebrates the Holidays:
    • I hope that all of you will think about giving to those in need this holiday!  You can bring food, buy a gift for a small child, and help decorate a Christmas tree for a family in need.  This is final week of these outstanding projects and you do not want to miss out!  Please swing by the Student Council office for more information or see me with any questions!  Thank you to the Student Council for their amazing job of giving.  J

  1. Progress Reports Issued/Parent-Teacher Conferences:
    • Progress Reports will be distributed and Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, December 10th.  At this stage of the term and semester…it will become the final push to the end of January.  Also, appointment sheets for parent-teacher conferences will be distributed on Friday, November 30, 2018 to allow for you to make appointments with your teachers.    I hope you are looking at your academic progress and improving every day!  Remember… “Make it Big…Do it Right…and Do it with Class”.  It is important that you FinishSTRONG.
