Branagan’s Bulletin
Week of May 6 – May 10, 2019

Hello Sachems!  I hope you had a great weekend!  I want to take a moment and reflect on how awesome it is to be a Sachem!  This past week, I had the chance to watch our school come together to celebrate our Special Olympic Athletes, and once again, you showed your true spirit.  What a great feeling!  You have created such an inclusive school, and I could not be more proud of each of you!  Continue to make our school the best it can be…it does not go unnoticed!     Additionally, I want to take a moment and extend my sincere appreciation and thanks to all of the AP students who will begin their AP testing this week!  We believe in you…and how you are ready for your respective exams!  We are very proud of you!  Here are a few items for the week ahead!

  1. Sachem Shout-Out:
    • Thank you to the Student Council, Twirlers, MHS Band, Concert Choir and the Cheerleaders for your commitment to making the Special Olympics Pep Rally the best yet!  The Sachem Pride was incredible on Friday!
    • Congratulations to all of our Special Olympics Athletes on your competition on Saturday.  We know you brought home the Gold!

    • A special note of thanks to the group of juniors who participated in the EPP Testing Protocol this week.  From all accounts…you worked very hard on this exam.  Scores will be announced next week!
    • Congratulations to Shannon Hurley and Carissa Chane for being selected to serve as the representatives to the State Student Advisory Council for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 
    • To the large number of juniors who participated in the SAT Exam on Saturday…thank you for your commitment to this important exam.
    • Thank you to the Key Club for a very successful Walk for Water.  Job well done!
    • Thank you to the many students who participated in the Arts Festival.  Your commitment to the arts is incredible.  Thank you!
    • Thank you to Caitlin Johnson, Isabella Generazo, Breiah Coletti, Alexis Caramanica, Natalia Parkinson, Ally Kirkpatrick and Lilly Kirkpatrick for representing our school inspiring the 8th graders at the Nichols Middle School with the annual Giraffe Project.  Outstanding job! 
  1. Advanced Placement Testing – May 7 - 10
    • Best of luck to the AP Seminar, Physics, Literature, European History, Chemistry, Psychology, US History and Studio Art students who are participating in their AP tests this week!  You can do it!
    • All exams will take place at the Nichols Middle School with the exception of the Studio Art class. 

  1. Class of 2019 Student Speaker Try-outs:
    • Members of the Class of 2019…represent your class at graduation.  Please sign up with me in the main office for your interest.  Speeches will need to be presented to a committee and our speakers will be determined based on the speech and the message that you are sending to capture the essence of the Class of 2019.  Do not miss out on this great opportunity!

  1. Spring Concert - Wednesday, May 8, 2019
    • The annual Spring Concert will take place on Wednesday of this week at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  I wish all of our music students well as they participate in the final preparation for the concert.  This concert is a tradition for MHS!

  1. Academic Honor Societies Night – Tuesday, May 7
    • The 2019 Academic Honor Societies Night will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00pm in the MHS Auditorium.  It is with great excitement that we will induct over 80 students into the following academic honor societies:
                                         i.    National English Honor Society
                                       ii.    Mu Alpha Theta – National Mathematics Honor Society
                                      iii.    Rho Kappa – National History Honor Society
                                      iv.    National Science Honor Society
                                        v.    National Spanish Honor Society
                                      vi.    National French Honor Society

  1. MHS Art Show is Coming!:
    • I encourage all of our students to take part in the annual MHS Art Show, which will take place in the high school gym on Friday, May 24.  I want to thank all of our artists who will be displaying art pieces for our enjoyment. 

  1. That’s Entertainment 41 – May 23 - 25, 2019
    • It is that time of year, when STW sponsors one of the most exciting events at MHS.  That’s Entertainment 41 will take place on May 23 – 25, 2019 at 7:00pm.  You do not want to miss out!  Mark your calendar!

  1.  Term 4 Progress Reports Distributed:
    • Quarter IV Progress Reports will be distributed to all SENIORS on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:40pm.  Progress Reports for all freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be distributed on Friday, May 17 with a special advisory at 1:40pm.

  1. National College/Future Signing Day – May 17
·         Mark Your Calendars Seniors!  The National College/Future Signing Day for MHS will be held on May 17, 2019.  You will each take your place on the FinishedSTRONG Wall! Get ready for a very exciting day!

  1.  Pop-Up Library – Tuesday, May 7, 2019
·         The Middleborough Public Library will be hosting their monthly Pop-Up Library in the MHS Cafeteria during all four lunches.  Please take a moment to stop by the table to check it out.

  1.  Class Officer Nomination Process Begins – May 6, 2019
    • The nomination papers to run for a position on the Class Executive Board for the Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022 will be available beginning on Monday, May 6, 2019.  All completed nomination papers are due back to Mr. Branagan no later than Friday, May 10, 2019. 
    • Election speeches and voting will take place on Friday, May 17, 2019.

  1. Junior Prom - Saturday, May 11
    • The Class of 2020 will hold their Junior Prom on Saturday, May 11 at 6:00pm at the Middleborough Town Hall.  The Grand March will begin promptly at 6:00pm at the Town Hall Lawn, followed by the celebration of the Junior Prom in the Grand Ballroom of the Town Hall.  I am looking forward to celebrating this very important event with our Junior Class!
    • Our school photographer, Lifetouch Photography will provide formal prom photos at the junior prom.  A price package will be given to all juniors on Friday of this week during Advisory.    

  1.  Class of 2019 -  Senior Walk – May 31
    • Attention all members of the Class of 2019…Mark your calendars for Friday, May 31, 2019 as the Class of 2019 will board buses in your caps and gowns and travel to all schools within Middleborough to celebrate the completion of your educational journey.  We will parade through each school.  This event will take place at the conclusion of the final graduation rehearsal on Friday morning.  The event will begin at approximately 11:00am from MHS.  Seniors…you do not want to miss this event!

  1.  Attention Class of 2020 – College Fair Opportunity – May 21, 2019
    • Attention all members of the Class of 2020.  The MHS Guidance Department is coordinating a trip to Bridgewater State University to take part of a very large college fair that is being held at BSU on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.  Please stop by guidance office and sign-up today!  If you have any questions, please see or email your guidance counselor.

  1.   Groundbreaking Ceremony – New High School – May 9, 2019 
·         The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new high school will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 2:30pm in the afternoon.  A special note of thanks to the MHS Band, Orchestra, Concert Choir and Student Council for being a part of the event on Thursday afternoon.


  1.   2019 – 2020 Student Schedules
·         Attention all students in Grades 9 -11.  Academic schedules for next year will be distributed to all students for review and confirmation in Friday, May 10, 2019 during a special advisory.  The MHS Guidance Department work with students with any issues with their scheduled courses beginning on May 13, 2019.  More to come on this schedule. 

  1.   MHS Travels to Greece – June 2020 – You do not want to miss this!

  1.   A Survey for Parents/Guardians of Middleborough High School – Social Media:
    • The Middleborough Public Schools is looking for input from parents/guardians from around the District to seek your thoughts on how you engage Social Media in regard to getting your information about our schools and its many events and opportunities.    The survey link will be open from Friday, May 3 – Friday, May 10, 2019.  Please take a moment and complete the survey.  The link is here:  https://forms.gle/VsuzYtPbZYAPrdYTA
